This was a very engaging activity to use in distance learning. I would use about 5 slides between lessons, super fun, and keeps the students discussing their choices as well. I hope to use this in person and will let you all know how it goes.

My students really struggle with writing, but I’ve seen an improvement in their ability to write persuasively using this resource! I display the question on the board and then have students write in their journal. I have them write their choice, then list #1-3 and write a short reason to support their choice. Then they have to write a 5-sentence paragraph. Sentence 1: restate the prompt with their choice as a topic sentence. Sentences 2-4: explain their 3 reasons. Sentence 5: Restate the topic sentence in different words. This repetitive practice with engaging prompts has boosted their writing more than other strategies I’ve used this year.

My students love to discuss these writing prompts. Now, before we discuss their opinions, they have to write out their thoughts. The prompts are engaging and fun to write about, so my students do not put up a fight. I look forward to continuing to use these for the remainder of the year and years to come. My students actually beg and remind me that we need to do more of these prompts. Thank you so much!!
